What we do

SDS Spices grows, sources and exports all spices, organic and non-organic unique to the isle of Sri Lanka.

Our Estates and Warehouse are located in Kosgoda and Ahungalle in the beautiful southern coast in the heart of the Cinnamon growing regions in Sri Lanka.

Sourcing

We source our spices and herbs from the premium growing regions within Sri Lanka. Our procurement team has long standing relationships with local collectors & farmers to ensure a steady supply of high-grade product while maintaining ethical trade practices.

Best Practices Farming Program

We lead by example for our main Commodity, Ceylon Cinnamon. We endeavor to integrate our core values of hygiene and sustainability to the farming communities that we work with.

We have established a model organic certified Cinnamon estate with a GMP certified Cinnamon processing center as a model for farmers/cinnamon peelers to understand and apply sustainable/ hygienic agricultural practices.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process at SDS Spices integrates production and packaging equipment lines with food engineering and safety standards.

Cleaning

We clean our spices & herbs to ensure right shape, density, weight, color, and size. In addition, to meeting our demands of consistent quality, our products are clean, sterilized and free from Human Hair as we remove undesirable foreign matter through just some of the following ways:
  • Washing/ Drying/ Fanning/Destoning
  • In line magnets
  • Metal Detection

Grinding and Blending

At SDS Spices (Pvt) Ltd, we have a variety of machines to meet custom grinding sizes. In addition to pre- cleaning, we use various screen sizes to eliminate unwanted material post grinding. Furthermore, we have introduced a raw material cooling system to reduce the loss of volatile oils when grinding finer spice powders.

Sterilizing

We follow industry standards for microbial reduction by using Irradiation or steam sterilization. The type of treatment is decided based on customer requirements. Microbial and chemical testing completed at globally accredited laboratories. All finished material are tested prior to shipment.

Packing

We offer packaging in various sizes and shapes. From the traditional Cinnamon bales and bulk bag with 25kgs. of product, down to small bottles & packs with few ounces. We also offer customized packaging.
